Mark Levinson Shows New Line of Daniel Hertz Audio Components  Print E-mail

While Daniel Hertz may not ring any bells, the name of Mark Levinson is certainly familiar to audiophiles.  He’s the founder of Mark Levinson Audio Systems and the creator of a series of audio components still in demand today, and he’s back with a new line of products.

Levinson warns listeners that he is an innovator at heart, and doesn’t intend to copy anyone, even himself:  “Daniel Hertz takes a totally new tack with audio, combining the dynamics of the best outdoor concert sound--think massive amounts of air moving at lightning speed--with the vitality and transparency that record producers and musicians want to hear. Daniel Hertz products are designed to reproduce the softest, most delicate musical material up to the sound of a helicopter landing in front of you. “

Levinson says that his Daniel Hertz branded products may be his last, commenting that the new Telikos amplifier was given the name because it means ‘ultimate’ in ancient Greek.  “Daniel Hertz products will likely be my final statement in audio,” He says ”As a musician, recording engineer and audio designer, I have always searched for the most faithful way to recreate a musical event.”

Along with the aforementioned M5 Telikos amplifier – which sells at $6,000 – Levinson revealed the visually stunning M1 loudspeakers.  With a pricetag of $75,000 for a pair, M1 loudspeakers were created to combine dynamic linearity and punch with the sonic transparency of the best audio products on the market.
The M1 speakers, along with the soon to be launched M2, M7 speakers and M3 subwoofer, are made at the Petrof piano factory near Prague.

A Daniel Hertz branded preamp, the M6 1 MegOhms Preamplifier will launch at an $8,000 price.  The Swiss-made M9 SSD PC Media Center will also debut shortly, with a range of different storage sizes available.

Dear Gordon, I empathize with your feeling because so many high end audio
products are under-engineered and over-priced. Some can accurately be described
as fraudulent. But if you and I sat down together, looked at what the real costs
of making the M1's are, and evaluated their advantages and stunning
craftsmanship, I think you'd agree that they are fairly priced and excellent
value for money. One reason I founded Daniel Hertz SA is that I was saddened if
not sickened by what happened to high end audio. It all started in the early
1970's from passion for quality, excellence in audio engineering, and most
importantly, a love of music, both live and reproduced. Look at what it became.
Daniel Hertz SA is expensive no doubt, but when you see what you get, it's lke a
great musical instrument - worth every penny to the right person. There are many
of my units working perfectly after 35 years of daily use, still giving pleasure
and retaining considerable value. Daniel Hertz SA, while very different in many
design terms from my previous efforts, is intended to produce prized possessions
that cannot be duplicated for less. Please give us a chance and don't jump to
conclusions until you hear, see and understand what we are doing. You are likely
to feel differently. Form opinions after you have all the facts.

Form opinions after you have all the facts. These look fabulous. I can't wait
to hear them.

Nothing made me sicker when you doubled the
retail price of the Audio Prism amps after you'd bought the company and renamed
it Red Rose Music. That was really disgusting and from then on I stopped being
a fan of yours.

Go on and piss about Mark. Cry all you want. Truth is he will go down in history
as one of the true innovators of high end audio. Good luck affecting history the
way he has. I have heard the new systems and thank God he thinks he's super
special at what he does, because it shows in every atom of this new creation.
These systems bury others alive that cost much more. Sounds like RRM was a high
profit venture. To me that is smart marketing and what any shrewd businessman
does. Kudos to being a success at selling the crap out of Chinese product. I see
success after success for this guy..

Mark may have an interesting personality, but that is a common trait among
innovators and entrepreneurs. It takes that kind of determination to make
something in the face of naysayers. I will be really curious to hear how these
do .... There is an amazing group out of New York called Ciamara. The work
they do is truly outstanding, and they are starting to turn some heads. Watch
out for these guys. Maybe Mark Levinson would be willing to do a side-by-side
with Ciamara to see which ones people like better?
nunya  - More vapor-ware ?   |2010-06-24 19:44:29
Looked on the Ciamara website and not one place does it say who they are and why
they know anything about audio. I can see that they are dealers, and can gather
that they are studio guys, but every professional studio builder I know has his
own line of speakers so they can maximize profit on their installs. The majority
of the Ciamara product is just digital renderings and drawings which makes me
doubt the product has ever been made. Then to charge $49K per speaker and not
even say who designed it ?? Good luck with that one. I honestly cant imagine
we'll have to "watch out" for yet another pro audio outfit trying to
sell overpriced speakers to the "idiots" in the high end hobby. We tend
to buy from names we know that have history in our niche. And nobody likes
drawings of product. If it really exists, then prove it.
Bob Hastings  - Ciamara   |2010-06-25 16:49:05
Maybe you should contact them and ask for a demonstration. I have heard their
stuff. It is incredible. Nothing I have heard anywhere from hi fi to studio
stuff comes even clowe.

Great idea, I could compare them directly.
Have spent time with Maggies,
Dunlavy, Nola, Sound Labs, B&W,JM Labs etc. More important than a product is the
people behind it though.

Levinson and other scoundrels, and experts of hype, D'Agastino and on and on, PS
Audio, they just continue making more BS under a different name. Grossly over
priced, why don't ya sell to the Michael Fremer nudnick, if it's over priced he
glorify it. High End is 92% filled with con men and skunks. Magic wires, and
another "breakthrough" all crap. How come all these innovators come
and go, like running from the tax man. How come Audio by VanAlstine is STILL
making great stuff with mortal prices after 40 YEARS! So many have come and
gone, cus BS doesn't hold up. real quality stuff does.
