Beating the mark set a mere two weeks ago by The Mummy Returns, Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace sold more copies on DVD than any other DVD ever. Star Wars junkies gobbled up 2.2 million copies of The Phantom Menace in its first week on store shelves.
Despite lack luster reviews by the Star Wars loyalists, The Phantom Menace sold exceddinly well which is a very promsising sign for the pending release of the three Origianal Star Wars films when they are finally availible on DVD. The rumor was the Universal hung on to Jurrassic Park until there were enough DVD players on the market to make a true commercial success of the release. With $45,000,000 in sales last week, Fox has to be thrilled. Let's hope Geroge Lucas is seeing dollar signs as well so we don't have too long of a wait for the films we really want to see from the series. |
