AROUND THE FIRE (A-Pix), a 1999 drama about Manhattan teens dealing with love and drug abuse, stars Devon Sawa, Bill Smitrovich, Eric Mabius, Tara Reid and Charlayne Woodard under John Jacobsen’s direction. The DVD comes with a 5.1 soundtrack that features numbers by Dire Straits, the Grateful Dead, Bob Marley, the Neville Brothers and Phish. Extras include a behind-the-scenes featurette and interviews with the cast and filmmakers.

BEETHOVEN’S 3RD (Universal Home Video), a 2000 straight-to-video comedy directed by David M. Evans, stars Judge Reinhold and Julia Sweeney as humans caught up in hijinks with a rambunctious St. Bernard dog.

DA HIP HOP WITCH (A-Pix) is a 1999 hip-hop send-up of THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT. Directed by Dale Resteghini, the spoof features rappers Pras, Rah Digga and Eminem discussing their encounters with the "black witch in the project." The film also features Spliff Star and Killah Priest. The DVD features an audio commentary track from the director, bonus footage and a weblink.

ROMEO MUST DIE (Warner Home Video), released earlier this year theatrically, is a fast-paced actioner with plenty of remarkable martial arts sequences and a hip-hop soundtrack. Noted cinematographer Andrzej Bartkowiak makes his directorial debut on this feature, which stars Jet Li, Aaliyah, Russell Wong and Delroy Lindo. The DVD features a "making of" short on the entire film, four more "making of" segments on the stunt and effects crews, plus five additional mini-behind-the-scenes segments focusing on individual action sequences and music videos of Aaliyah’s "Try Again" and "Come Back in One Piece," with a "making of" section on "Try Again." A DVD-ROM section for PCs links viewers to an interactive game called "Martial Arts Experience" that reportedly allows players to "fight" in the film as an actual character.

WHATEVER IT TAKES (Columbia/TriStar) is a teen romantic comedy, released earlier this year, directed by David Raynr and starring Marla Sokoloff, Shane West, Jodi Lyn O’Keefe, Manu Intirayme, Julia Sweeney and Richard Shiff. The DVD comes with an audio commentary track by the director and cast members, a "making of" short and deleted scenes.
