The
original 1970 Woodstock movie included part of Hendrix’s performance in
the festival and 1994’s release of the performance ran for less than an
hour. It took over thirty years but now fans can finally enjoy his
entire set, complete with a new 5.1 Surround Sound track on DVD. “Jimi
Hendrix: Live at Woodstock [The Deluxe Edition]” is scheduled to be
released September 13, 2005 by Experience Hendrix LLC and Universal
Music DVD Video.
The video footage has been digitally restored and re-edited by Jere Huggins who also edited the 1970 documentary. Eddie Kramer, Hendrix’s original studio sound engineer was also brought in to remix the audio into 5.1 and 2.0 stereo tracks. The DVD features Hendrix’s entire uninterrupted performance, including never-before-seen versions of “Foxey Lady”, “Message to Love”, “Hey Joe”, “Spanish Castle Magic” and “Lover Man”. The Deluxe Edition is a two-disc set so the bonus material is extensive. “A Second Look” features uninterrupted footage of every performance from the DVD but with alternate camera angles and black-and-white footage. It also includes “Hear My Train A Comin’” , a performance missed by the film crew. In “Recording Woodstock” Eddie Kramer talks about the recording of the festival while in “Nashville Roots” band members Billy Cox and Larry Lee recall Hendrix and the festival. Fans can also see Jimi himself speak about Woodstock only two weeks after it took place on the “Jimi Hendrix Press Conference”.
