CHARLOTTE’S WEB (Paramount Home Entertainment), based on E.B. White’s classic children’s novel, is a 1973 animated musical feature about a literate spider (voiced by Debbie Reynolds) who rescues a kind-hearted pig (voiced by Henry Gibson). Paul Lynde, Agnes Moorhead and Rex Allen supply other voices. Aspect ratio is widescreen, enhanced for 16x9 TVs; sound formats are English Dolby Digital Mono and French Dolby Digital Mono, with English subtitles. Extras include a "meet the animals" DVD and computer game, an animal photo gallery and the theatrical trailer. MPAA rating is G.

THE FUGITIVE: SPECIAL EDITION (Warner Home Video) is a new DVD release of the 1993 film version of the ‘60s TV series. Andrew Davis directs the tale of Dr. Richard Kimble (Harrison Ford), unjustly convicted of the murder of his wife, escaping en route to the death house and seeking the real killer. Tommy Lee Jones won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance as the lawman on Kimble’s trail. Action sequences include an extraordinary train wreck and a chase through a dam. Aspect ratio is 1.85:1; sound formats are English Dolby Digital 5.1 and French Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo, with English and French subtitles. Extras include an audio commentary track from director Davis and actor Jones, new introductions by Ford, Jones and Davis, two making-of featurettes, an awards list and the theatrical trailer. MPAA rating is R.

THE PLEDGE (Warner Home Video), released theatrically earlier this year, is director Sean Penn’s dark tale of a retired police detective (Jack Nicholson) who will do anything to uphold his promise to catch a serial killer of children. Robin Wright Penn also stars. Aspect ratio is 2.35:1; sound format is English Dolby Digital 5.1, with English and French subtitles. Extras include the theatrical trailer. MPAA rating is R.

PROOF OF LIFE (Warner Home Video), released theatrically last year, is a thriller about a hostage negotiator (Russell Crowe) who falls in love with the wife (Meg Ryan) of a kidnap victim (David Morse). Taylor Hackford directs. Aspect ratio is 2.35:1; sound formats are English Dolby Digital 5.1 and French Dolby Digital 2.0, with English and French subtitles. Extras include an audio commentary from director Hackford, a making-of featurette and the theatrical trailer. MPAA rating is R.

RIO BRAVO (Warner Home Video) is director Howard Hawks’ influential 1959 Western starring John Wayne, Dean Martin, Angie Dickinson and Walter Brennan. Aspect ratio is 1.85:1; sound format is English Dolby Digital 2.0, with English, Spanish, French and Portuguese subtitles. Extras include the theatrical trailer. This film was made prior to the existence of the MPAA rating system and is therefore unrated.

SAVE THE LAST DANCE (Paramount Home Entertainment), released theatrically earlier this year, is a tale of interracial romance in high school between two excellent dancers (Julia Stiles and Sean Patrick Thomas). Bianca Lawson, Fredro Starr, Terry Kinney and Kerry Washington also star. Thomas Carter directs. Aspect ratio is widescreen, enhanced for 16x9 TVs; sound formats are English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround and French Mono, with English subtitles. Extras include an audio commentary from director Carter, a making-of featurette, additional scenes, the "Crazy" music video by K-Ci & JoJo, cast and crew interviews and the theatrical trailer. MPAA rating is PG-13 (violence, sexual content, language and brief drug references).

STAR TREK: THE ORIGINAL SERIES VOL. 25 (Paramount Home Entertainment) contains two episodes from the 1968 season of the famous science-fiction TV show: "A Piece of the Action," in which the crew of the Enterprise find themselves on a planet patterned after 1920s mob-governed Chicago and "By Any Other Name," in which the Enterprise is trapped by aliens. Aspect ratio is 1.33:1, digitally enhanced; sound formats are remastered English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround and French Dolby Digital Mono, with English subtitles. Extras include the original broadcast trailers. There is no MPAA rating (rated G in Canada).

STAR TREK: THE ORIGINAL SERIES VOL. 26 (Paramount Home Entertainment) contains two more episodes: "Return to Tomorrow," in which Capt. Kirk and Co. find a planet populated by globes that contain the identities of the previous denizens, and "Patterns of Force," in which Kirk tries to deal with a planet that has acquired nuclear weapons technology. Aspect ratio is 1.33:1, digitally enhanced; sound formats are remastered English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround and French Dolby Digital Mono, with English subtitles. Extras include the original broadcast trailers. There is no MPAA rating (rated G in Canada).

STATE AND MAIN (New Line Home Entertainment), released theatrically last year, is writer/director David Mamet’s shrewdly observed, very funny comedy about a movie company invading a small New England town. Alec Baldwin, Charles Durning, Clark Gregg, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Patti LuPone, William H. Macy, Sarah Jessica Parker, David Paymer, Rebecca Pidgeon and Julia Stiles star. The DVD comes with both widescreen and full-screen (1.33:1) aspect ratios; sound formats are English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround and English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo Surround, with English subtitles. Extras include an audio commentary track with actors Parker, Macy, Paymer, LuPone and Gregg, the theatrical trailer, cast and crew filmographies, the theatrical trailer and DVD-ROM content. MPAA rating is R (language, brief sexual images).
