According to thedigitalbits.com, LucasFilm and 20th Century Fox could be making an announcement on Tuesday, Februaury 10 regarding the release of the Star Wars Trilogy on DVD.
Star Wars fans have been buzzing about the possibility of a DVD release since late last year. According to the latest information, the set will include Episodes 4, 5 and 6 as well as a disc devoted entirely to bonus material like last year’s Indiana Jones Trilogy format.
As for the versions to be released, many speculate they will not be the originals. George Lucas sent die-hard Star Wars fans into a virtual frenzy last year when he stated in an interview that he would finally be able to release the films in the way he intended when he released them on DVD.
Some speculate that the DVD set will include the “Archive Editions” of the films. The “Archive Editions” would be comparable to the Special Editions released in the 1990s but would include further changes, enhancements and additions.
Although announcement of the release has not even come yet, people are already speculating that the set will hit stores sometime between September and November of 2004.
