It’s really unfortunate that wireless HDMI is still such a niche technology. We’ve been talking about it for years, and seeing demos and prototype units for just as long. Luckily for those that want it, a few companies are still working with wireless transmission.
Among them is Gefen, who just announced the availability of their new GefenTV Wireless for HDMI 60Ghz. The name tells you just about all you need to know about the setup. It’s a pair of boxes – one sender and one receiver – that transmit video wirelessly. Since they’re sending at 60Ghz they shouldn’t interfere with any other wireless signals in the house, like mobile phones. Best of all, they use a multi antenna solution from SiBEAM that lets the new Gefen extender send video at a 1080p resolution. |
