Energy has introduced a new set of speakers – the C-Series is intended to replace both the XL and Connoisseur Series, offering performance and aesthetics at an affordable price point. It will begin shipping in October.
The C-Series is comprised of eight models. There are three bookshelf speakers in varying sizes – the 4.5-inch C-50 ($150/pair), 5.5-inch C-100 ($200/pair) and 6.5-inch C-200 ($300/pair) – and two tower models, C-300 ($500/pair) and dual C-500 ($700/pair). The towers are said to offer significant performance upgrades from the bookshelf speakers with greater bass output but they do feature the same tweeter as the bookshelf models to guarantee that tone and timber is consistent. Center channel options include the 4.5-inch C-C50 ($130) and 6.5-inch C-C100 ($249) while the rear channel C-R100 ($150) 5.5-inch bipole speaker ensures enveloping effects are reproduced in harmony with the system.
The series’ design is derived from Energy’s Reference Connoisseur and Veritas series. The front baffle is carved from a one-inch thick piece of MDF and finished in hand-rubbed high gloss piano black lacquer to create a rigid platform that is visually stimulating. The C-Series is available in either a Black Ash or Cherry finish. As for driver design, the speakers combine Energy’s one-inch chambered aluminum hyperdrive dome tweeter with a composite fiberglass cone for dynamic performance.
