Sure 'Star Wars' has made the jump to Blu-ray, but if you fall into the hard sci-fi camp, you'll probably be a bit more enthused about the coming release of 'Star Trek: The Next Generation' in 2012. And, unlike 'Star Wars' fans, you won't have to worry about unwelcome changes. They're returning to the original film negatives to put this together and they'll be recompositioning the special effects shots rather than upconverting them. You'll get 1080p 'Star Trek: TNG' with 7.1 channel surround - all in time for the 25th anniversary of the show.
Seasons will start rolling out in 2012, but if you want to get your hands on something as soon as possible, a sampler disc will be launching in January. The disc includes the pilot episode as well as 'Sins of the Father' and 'The Inner Light.' MSRP on that sampler disc will be $21.99. Pricing and release dates for the rest of the series are yet to be revealed.
