Redbox CEO Says $1.50 Blu-ray Rentals are on the Way  Print E-mail

Redbox is great if you're a DVD fan.  You can get any movie they've got for a buck a night, and even though the selection trends towards newer flicks, there's still a decent selection.  Blu-ray lovers have been left in the cold so far, but Redbox CEO Mitch Lowe says HD lovers will be getting their fix in the next few months.

And Blu-rays are coming cheaper than expected.  Speculation has put Blu-ray rental fees at as low as $2 a night and as high as $3, but as it turns out, we can expect a $1.50 fee.  That's only 50 cents more than DVD rentals, and it's a welcome surprise.

As far as when we'll start seeing Blu-rays in kiosks, the answer is a bit less clear.  Lowe says the transition will happen in the next few months, but Redbox execs have been giving us the "next few months" answer for a while now.

Maybe you should try doing some simple reasearch next time before posting an
article.... do a simple google search and you will see that redbox is already
offering bluray at some of their kiosks...

The CEO of Redbox or CEO of Coinstar, was interviewed on national TV. There he
said DVDs cost %1.00 per Rental. I ask then why the Kiosks in the Albuquerque
Area charge $1.50. And I not going to accept this %1.50 charge for Blu Ray. We
don't have Blu Rays. I want to disciss this matter with the top man at Redbox.
