Redbox is great if you're a DVD fan. You can get any movie they've got for a buck a night, and even though the selection trends towards newer flicks, there's still a decent selection. Blu-ray lovers have been left in the cold so far, but Redbox CEO Mitch Lowe says HD lovers will be getting their fix in the next few months.
And Blu-rays are coming cheaper than expected. Speculation has put Blu-ray rental fees at as low as $2 a night and as high as $3, but as it turns out, we can expect a $1.50 fee. That's only 50 cents more than DVD rentals, and it's a welcome surprise. As far as when we'll start seeing Blu-rays in kiosks, the answer is a bit less clear. Lowe says the transition will happen in the next few months, but Redbox execs have been giving us the "next few months" answer for a while now. |
