Paramount Releasing Special Edition Sapphire Blu-rays
Paramount will be releasing its greatest hits and its most high profile titles on Sapphire Blu-Ray discs beginning September 1st.  These special premium discs will contain ultra-high-definition audio and video, with 1080p Full HD, CinemaScope 2.39:1 aspect ratio, and lossless surround sound from the DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1-channel, not to mention all the extras and bonus features.

Paramount has announced that Braveheart and Gladiator will be among the first titles to get the Sapphire treatment in September, with Forrest Gump as part of the second round of releases in November.  These titles will retail for a suggested price of $39.99.

Don't tell me! Not ANOTHER format. They really want to kill individual
ownership, don;t they!?

Weren't all three rumored to be released for HD DVD last summer, had that
format's abrupt end happened first?

Also its not a new format, its simply
their "Criterion Collection" if you will.

Oh wonderful, just what a slow adoption rate format needs, even higher priced
discs.

Get the hardware to $149.99, get the media to 414.99 and Blu-ray will
succeed. the general public has accepted hidef broadcast for TV. Over priced
players and movies will just kill the format before it really had a chance.

I'm
a movie fan. I love the higher quality of Blu-ray. I own just under 200 Blu-rays
discs, but I will not pay these super premium prices.
