General Electric has unveiled a six-year work-in-progress: a 500 GB micro-holographic disc. This disc can house the same amount of data as twenty, single layer 25 GB Blu-Ray discs.
Although it was only the first of many demonstrations, spokespeople from GE suggest that this technology is something they want to push for the future. They believe that the average consumer could one day get their hands on these holographic discs, as the technology to read them would be similar to Blu-Ray player technology. GE is currently working on a 1 TB version of this technology.
