The first six months of 2009 have seen Blu-ray sales increased by 91 percent. This is quite the feat considering the economic times. After the first quarter of the year the sales had increased by over 70 percent. These numbers are in comparison with the year previous. As more and more PS3 owners and consumers jump on the bandwagon, Blu-ray software sales seem to do well.
The bad news of all this is that the overall home video software sales
are down 3.9 percent from last year, meaning the overall profit is down
2.2 percent. Blu-ray sales have brought in $407 million, while digital
downloading has also increased by 21 percent to $968 million. (Not a
good sign for the future of physical media). It appears as if the
sales of video rentals have also increased by over eight percent.
