There are a few new titles hitting Blu-ray this week that all share a common theme. They all feature an actor, or actors, that were amazing in their previous works, but not so much in their new films. Luckily, there's a bevy of great catalog titles hitting the shelves.
Daybreakers A movie starring Willem Dafoe, Sam Neill and Ethan Hawke should be so much better than this. It's not that Daybreakers was bad. It's an enjoyable enough film. It's just not what you might expect based on the amount of talent on set. If you're sick of friendly sparkly vampires and looking for something with some bite, this is one worth getting. Legion Oh Paul Bettany, why have you not yet learned how to pick roles? Bettany was great in 'The DaVinci Code,' 'A Beautiful Mind,' and 'Master and Commander,' but he still manages to stumble into films that are far beneath his stature. 'Legion' is one of those. It's like 'Underworld,' but without all the good. History of the World Part 1 If the new stuff doesn't interest you, consider a classic. 'History of the World Part 1' is one of the finest films to come from director Mel Brooks. Dom DeLuise, Madeline Kahn, Harvey Korman, Cloris Leachman, Sid Ceaser and a handful of other great comedic actors all make an appearance. If you haven't seen 'History of the World Part 1' and you enjoy comedies, you owe it to yourself. The Edge Edge of Darkness Hang 'Em High High Anxiety The Karate Kid The Karate Kid, Part II Legend of the Tsunami Warrior M The Magnificent Seven Collection The Man in the Iron Mask Marked for Death Robin Hood: Men in Tights Rock 'N' Roll High School Samurai Princess Tidal Wave |
