The first week of February is a great one for Blu-ray. In addition to some great new films, there are plenty of legacy titles that have been badly needed. And as an added bonus, Godfather I and II have been separated out for individual sale for those that don’t want to pick up the whole trilogy at once. Click Below to see what else is hitting shelves this week:
Zombieland (Amazon Link)
This may have been one of the biggest surprises of last year. Woody Harrelson’s done comedy before, and Jesse Eisenberg was great in Adventureland, but this is a completely different film altogether. But somehow, it all works. Zombieland manages to provide a new approach to the zom-com genre. It’s on a different track than Shaun of the Dead and manages to be original in a tried and true genre.
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (Amazon Link)
Up until now there were only two options available to you if you wanted Fear and Loathing in HD. You could dig up an HD-DVD player and buy the HD-DVD version, or you could import the European version. Thankfully, Terry Gilliam’s masterpiece will be available tomorrow on shelves across America. This is a can’t miss movie featuring one of Johnny Depp’s finest performances and some wonderful work by Benicio Del Toro.
Universal Soldier: Regeneration (Amazon Link)
Yes, it’s the fourth in the Universal Soldier series, a series which was never that great to begin with. But Regeneration does offer one thing that the rest of the direct to video sequels didn’t: Jean-Claude Van Damme. JCVD reprises his role as Luc Devaraux and Dolph Lungren once again portrays nemesis Andrew Scott. Godfather II it isn’t, but it’s as close as you’re going to get to a new 90s style action movie any time soon.
