August starts strong on the Blu-ray front thanks to one ass kickin' comic book movie, a few catalog titles that are finally getting a release, and plenty of great music.

Kick-Ass

If you missed this one in theaters, this is your chance to grab it.  'Kick-Ass' is one of the most interesting superhero tales told in a good long while, and the movie doesn't disappoint at all.  You'll recognize Nicholas Cage and the fantastic Christopher Mintz-Plasse, but it's relative newcomer Chloe Moretz that really steals the show.  There's just something about an ultra-violent ten year old with a vocabulary that would make the most joyful cusser blush.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

It's like 'Kick-Ass' without all the violence and swearing and superheroes.  Actually, the only real similarity is that the hero is a kid who isn't exactly cool.  It's a decent family flick that's not too painful for adults to watch.

Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace and Music: 40th Anniversary Edition

You don't get a much better musical lineup than this.  Joan Baez, Janis Joplin, The Who, Joe Cocker, CSNY and Jimi Hendrix all on one Blu-ray.  You've even got The Band, Jefferson Airplane, Creedence and The Grateful Dead.  It's all that plus footage from the event including the highs and lows of the festival.   This is one Blu-ray that's well worth picking up.
