If CES was any indicator, UHDTVs are going to be big over the next few years, and that means there's going to need to be 4K content to go along with them. The problem is trying to figure out just how to go about it, be it streaming, downloadable or disc based. The folks at the Blu-ray Disc Association have been debating on what 4K means for them and are giving strong consideration to 4K Blu-rays.
There are three big issues standing in the way – whether it can be done, how many people want it, and just what effect it will have on the current install base. If 4K discs can be made to play in 1080p on older Blu-ray players, adoption should be fairly easy. If not, and the discs have to be sold separate from the traditional Blu-ray versions there could be a hard road ahead.
