Today Sharp announced their new BDXL discs which use three different layers to enable a total of 100GB of storage space. The company says that each one will hold an absolutely staggering twelve hours of recorded television content.
At the moment, there are only two products you can use BDXL discs with, and they were also introduced by Sharp yesterday. They're both Blu-ray recorders that can handle the current triple-layer discs and quad-layer discs that are expected to be introduced in the near future.
The BD-HDW70 sports a one terabyte hard drive, 3D Blu-ray compatibility and a price tag that's right around $2,300. The BD-HDW700 keeps the 3D capability but kicks up hard drive space to 2TB and sells for $3,500.
