Oppo has released a new firmware update for their BDP-83 player that’s designed to fix some playback issues, as well as some aesthetics. It’s a public beta, which means there may still be a few issues to work out, but it’s generally stable enough to install without problem.
If you listen to SACDs, you may have noticed slight crackles or pops between tracks. Oppo says that the update fixes that problem, as well as compatibility issues with certain MKV files. Certain MKVs would play back with severe video artifacts, or not at all. The firmware update takes care of that issue. When asked on Twitter about the possibility of adding Netflix streaming as a future download, Oppo didn’t seem too optimistic. “NetFlix is being investigated as a firmware release,” wrote Oppo, “but this will likely require a brand new hardware platform.” |
