The R-904N is a receiver first and foremost. Audio processing is handled by a pair of 32-bit Texas Instruments DSPs, the DA787 and DA788. The output D/A converters have a 24-bit resolution, while video processing is handled by the DaVinci based TMS320DM6446 processor. The NetBoxx decodes “virtually all popular audio and video codecs”, including Dolby TruHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, and Dolby ProLogic IIx.
“The inspiration for the NetBoxx concept came from our realization of the change taking place in the way people bring entertainment into their home” said Jeffrey Hipps. “Use of physical media is declining and being replaced by content obtained through streaming or downloads.”
Able to connect directly to YouTube, CinemaNow, SHOUTcast internet radio and a variety of internet TV stations, the NetBoxx certainly embraces the perceived change. Sherwood’s new receiver also supports PlayOn – a onetime $39.95 subscription fee is required – for streaming of Hulu, Netflix and more. Networked media is also able to be streamed, though the question of which specific formats are able to be streamed has not been elaborated upon.
