Pioneer went all out with its new SC-57 and SC-55 receivers. They boast networking features, image enhancement, iOS control and more, but the most interesting improvement is a brand new Class D3 amplifier. Pioneer's new D3 technology offers greater power efficiency which goes hand in hand with improved heat management. You'll also get an improved signal path - a third shorter than the 2010 model - and a total harmonic distortion of 0.003 percent.
AirPlay is a feature that we're seeing on more and more home theater components and Pioneer's new receivers are no different. They pack both the iOS device friendly AirPlay and an app called Air Jam which allows up to four Bluetooth devices to be connected via the Bluetooth adapter, sold separately at $99.The SC-57 and SC-55 both pack Marvell Qdeo processors for enhanced video playback as well as a feature called Stream Smoother, which enhances video streamed over the internet. Both receivers are available now through authorized dealers. Pioneer's SC-55 will run you $1,600 while the THX Ultra 2 Plus certified SC-57 comes in at an even $2,000.
