The TX-SR608 is Onkyo’s first THX Certified entry into the world of 3D and it’s the leading receiver among three that were announced today. All of Onkyo’s new receivers, and even their HTiBs, can decode Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio bitstreams, but only the 608 delivers THX certified 7.2 channel sound.
It’s still got the Dolby Pro Logic IIz capabilities you’ve come to expect, but it also adds Audyssey DSX dimensional sound processing. The 608 sports a front HDMI port as made popular by Onkyo back in 2009, Faroudja DCDi Cinema upscaling from any resolution to 1080p and a boost in power up to 100 watts per channel. You can pick up the SR608 in April for $599.
An addition to all new Onkyo receivers is the inclusion of 192-kHz/24-bit Burr-Brown PCM1690 DACs that are resistant to jitter and offer a high dynamic range. All new receivers will also sport onscreen menus and, of course, HDMI 1.4 compatibility. Onkyo has also introed the 5.1-channel TX-SR308 (out this month) and 7.1-channel TX-SR508 (coming in April), which will be available at $299 and $399 respectively.
