Jim Hauenstein  - Responce to B&W 803S review   |2009-03-04 16:23:39 I do not agree that you need to be 4 to 5 feet away from the B&W 803 speakers to get good sound and imaging quality. I have a pair of B&W 803's in my combination home theater / living room and have them positioned as part of a 11' x 11' x 11' equilateral triangle with my listening position and I feel I get very realistic sound-stage imaging with this setup. I also have the 803'2 towed in towards my listening position to better achieve the imaging qualities the B&W 800 series speakers are known for. In my opinion, sitting 4 to 5 feet away from these speakers seems a little too close. My room dimensions are 15' x 15' w/ a 9' ceiling and the 803's have no trouble in this size room. Did you actually move the 803S's around your listening room to come up with this 4 to 5 feet value or did you just move forward and backward in your listening position w/o moving the speakers. It is my opinion that you should maintain the equilateral triangle spacing between the speakers and the listening position to make the listening distance comparisons legit. 28   0

coach  - I agree with Jim   |2009-03-24 13:56:24 I have the B&W 805's in my 15x15 room. In a 9x9x10 triangle with toe in crossing just behind my head. The sound stage is so wide and deep and high that sometimes in the early morning (1:00 to 3:00 am) listening sessions I sometimes think that there is someone else in the room. 4 to 5 feet away is far to close for a speaker the size of the 803. If my stand mounts can stand the distance, then the 803 should have no problem at all. Also,with the space between my 805's there is no hole in the middle. Friends often ask if the center channel is on when all were hearing is stereo. Move those puppies back and spread em out then see how they sound. 0   0

Rob Mead  - Clarification related to distancing   |2009-04-01 15:08:30 The reason I stated that the 805's should be located at the distance I indicated was because of the amazing amount of clarity in the sound dispersion I experienced during this demonstration. I could not move the speakers out of their areas because of the showroom's exact guidelines for demonstration purposes with prospective customers. I am happy with the knowledge that bigger rooms can be filled up with the precise and clean audio from the 805's based on the other two comments. 1   0
