Sony's BRAVIA KDL-55HX800 is biggest in their HX800 line of Dynamic Edge LED backlit LCD 3D TVs . This 54.6-inch HDTV features a native 1080p resolution and full 3D (both eyes) playback, Motionflow PRO 240Hz refresh rate, optional WiFi Internet connectivity, and DLNA certification.
This nearly fifty-five inch BRAVIA television offers viewers a full 1080p picture at 240 frames a second, though it can take any input signal from 480i to 1080p via one of its four HDMI inputs (version 1.4a), or 480i to 1080i via the component input. The television includes the BRAVIA Engine 3 video processor to enhance color and detail while reducing visual noise for all sources and resolutions. The big selling feature for the KDL-55HX800 is of course 3D playback. With its many HDMI 1.4a inputs, the KDL-55HX800 works with both 3D Blu-ray and broadcast content. The 3D Blu-ray spec requires the ability to display full 1080p to both eyes. Sadly though, Sony's 3D Sync Transmitter ($50) and 3D Active Glasses ($150 each) are not included. For owners who can't get enough 3D, there are a number of 3D enhancement features which will allows users to either reduce the 3D effect and or depth from 3D content, OR simulate 3D from traditional 2D content. The second best thing about 3D capable high definition displays is that they're also damn fine 2D displays. Sony's BRAVIA KDL-55HX800 features a number of high end features to make up for the fact that it's not a Plasma. It of course includes 24p Input Capability (via HDMI), but also Motionflow Pro 240Hz technology. Designed to reduce motion artifacts and blur, Motionflow has always done a decent job of reducing the slower response times of LCD screens, but for my money, make the image onscreen unnatural. This TV also offers an alleged "infinite dynamic contrast ratio." Meaning, anytime the TV receives a 0 IRE (true black) signal, backlighting is turned off leaving a luminance measurement of 0.00 cd/m2. Installers and calibrators rejoice. Like most of Sony's higher end televisions, the KDL-55HX800 features a number of Advanced Video Settings in addition to a standard picture mode. To achieve perfect video settings, feel free to adjust the Gamma, Clear White, Live Colors, White Balance, Black Corrector, Auto Light Limiter, and LED Dynamic Control.
