The Sopranos are my favorite TV series of all time without question however even on one of the best video playback systems you can get (Meridian Faroudja) the show looked dark.
People say it is because David Chase wanted things to look dingy (like north Jersey) but to make the "bing" look so dark that you can't see the action was too much for me. The cinematography of the show was great ESPECIALLY the 2nd to last episode however to ignore the physical limitations of what a typical HDYV can do was a mistake that could have been easily fixed. I could understand the creative decision if the show was a film first but it was meant for television and likely HD television. Can you forgive the show for not looking incredible on HD. j
