Jeremy,
There in lies the problem.... Zero analog shops locally, the last one wanted me to pay 85% or retail for a demo on the last day the store was open...... I have heard many GREAT TT at shows, but I am not going to spend $20K for a starter TT. You are right in the thinking that I like the look (bling) of some of the higher end TT's, but I am reconsidering what is relevant, maybe I should buy something for <$2K and see if it the analog thing is right for me then upgrade, that seems to be a good point of 'insertion' if you'll forgive my terms....

Then I recommend the ClearAudio Products, highly!
They are an evolutionary family of innovation, and you can't go wrong even with the least expensive version of their myriad of offerings. www.clearaudio.de/index1.html And . . . they are almost inevitably up-gradable! Older parts sell at a good clip. "I'm telling you, Dimitri, if you put everything on that plane, you can't miss! - President Merkin Muffley

I like the Clearaudio look, once again, I have no reference point for sonics....
I think I am going to have to delve deeper into the analog 'subculture' and find some folks willing to help me out, as shops at this level are so few and far between.

Why don't you ask them for a review sample?

I am still not even sure what I want!!! I have been reading up on TT's for over a year and the one thing I am sure of is I am still ignorant of many things about analog, set up, resonance matching etc....
I am debating buying something to 'get me started' for say less than $2K, maybe even less than $1K and play with it, as my experience grows, then maybe so should my table... The more I think about it, the more I like this idea, maybe I'll hold off to see what comes down the pike @ CES, their was a good showing of TT's last year and I suspect their will be again.

I have also been looking into adding a two channel preamp with HT passthrough to the rig, if I get one with a good phono preamp, I will only need to add that and the TT to get going......
