Ricoh Builds Completely Solar and Wind-Powered Display in Times Square
Ricoh Company has announced that building has begun on their proposed display in Times Square, New York. It will measure 47 feet in height by 126 feet long. The entire display will be powered by solar panels and wind turbines.
There will be a total of 45 solar panels and four wind turbines. The display will have floodlights wraped around it. On the days when there is not enough solar or wind power, the floodlights will remain off. The result of such a display is said to reduce carbon dioxide usage by 18 tons per year.
The solar/wind display will be the third in the world and the second in the United States. The billboard will be located at the corner of 7th Avenue and 42nd Street.
