DTS has always been my preference. Much more realistic and fuller sound. Yes, they usually seem to have a better LFE channel.

IIRC Spielberg has a stake in DTS, hence some movies ONLY being released with a DTS soundtrack. DTS was not originally part of the DVD spec, but Spielberg fought to make it so. (e.g. I have a 1st generation player, Panasonic A-300, that does not decode DTS.)
I now have the ability to listen to either and I find more often than not I choose DTS, unless it was originally a 2 track that was remastered into a multi. (e.g. I watched the David Bowie - Glass Spider Tour DVD the other day and the DD soundtrack was better to my ears than the DTS) Back in the day, the comparisons between the 2 showed that DTS was quite a bit louder than DD. Once the sound levels were adjusted, IIRC, it was difficult to tell the difference between the 2. (Note that this as 7-10 years ago) Can't say that I have done much, or any testing, myself. Bill |

For these reasons DTS gets my vote as well . . . it's the format I choose when available.

While I love DTS and agree it is a bit "fuller" sounding I prefer DD's more up front presentation on certain films. DTS on some larger action flicks sounds a bit to soft for my tastes sometimes.

Now that we have one format, it will be interesting to see, what goes on into the future.

One Format??? What are you talking about? If you mean Blu-Ray, it is just a storage medium. The manufacturers still have to decide how to put the audio on the disc and we still have DTS and Dolby with their different versions. Of course I would love to see audio discs in 24/192 and no encoding but I don't think that will happen combined with video. The video industry will still try to take the man sized portion of the disc. And then we can start to talk about downloads!!!!!
