BUILT IN ROOM CORRECTION

As I put the finishing touches on my Onkyo 805 review I have to pause and marvel at just how cool built in room correction software is. Be it Audyssey or Yamaha's YPAO or others it never ceases to amaze. After years of telling consumers they need to treat their rooms for the best possible sound manufacturers have taken it upon themselves to nearly "remove" your room from the equation. Personally, beyond HDMI and all the hoorah over the latest HD solutions/problems, the coolest feature to hit the consumer AV market is digital or automated room correction.

Andrew,

I agree with you! I have been so impresseed with the auto set-up and correction now offered that I have to really think where my RS SPL meter is!

I can't wait to see what happens after all the uncompressed formats settle in and the correction goes to the next level....

Built-in room correction in receivers is nice, but if money isn't an object look into Audio Controls Diva Processor. This baby has correction for eight channels including delays down to 1/8th of an inch, equalization and high pass filtering. I've never heard a sound room sound any better than when the Diva is in the house!

couldn't agree more . . . replaced my old Integra receiver with a Sherwood Newcastle R-871 a few months ago and the built-in EQ really did a much better job of tuning my room than these tired old ears were capable of

Re: BUILT IN ROOM CORRECTION

The first receiver I got with auto room calibration was some Sony model. It did a great room eq, but the switches and receiver components were junk. The next receiver I got was the Onkyo 674 which without question blew the Sony away. I was astounded at the performance quality of the room correction. And the receiver still let me make my own tweaks to personalize the sound of my room. Having tuned rooms by hand, I found this receiver automated correction to do a marvelous job for how quick and dirty it performed the tests.
