surround sound for more than one console?

hi. i have a sony bravia kdl-40s4100 tv with a sony hdx475 dvd home theatre system... i'm wondering if it's possible to have surround sound for all my devices connected to it, and for my cable (basic cable)... at the moment i have it for my xbox 360 and the dvd player that doubles as the reciever for the system... if i want to play ps3 with surround sound i have to swap the optical cable from the xbox to the ps3. i've tried plugging the optical into the tv but that only gives me sound through the theatre system for my basic cable and not either of my consoles is there any way to do this or is it time for a new tv??
