I think I was a bit unclear in my previous posts. I apologize. I ran my computer straight into the Bel Canto integrated via a USB cable, using the integrated's internal dac which I found to be quite good. When playing music ripped in AIFF or lossless I could detect little to no difference via a single USB connection to the integrated than if I spun the disc through one of my reference CD players.
I do not have a dedicated USB dac just ones built into other components like the Bel Canto and Outlaw RR2150. When it comes to traditional upsampling DAC's my favorite and long time reference has always been the Musical Fidelity Tri-Vista tube DAC. However, it's been seeing a lot less play time since the Bel Canto and Outlaw products arrived. Sorry for the confusion. I'll try and be more clear next time.

I was asking about the Bel Canto S300iu. The main reason why i'm interested in it -besides the sound- is that it has an integrated DAC with usb input. I cannot afford a separated DAC/upsampler. I'm sorry, I have mismatched Bel Canto products, its the DAC3 that does upsampling, not the integrated ampli. But my original question still stands. i try to better formulate my questions, but pardon me that English is no my first language. Could you try to upsample the music in the computer to 24/96 and tell me if there's a difference? I suspect that there is With mac you need to use Amadeus Pro. I bet there is a noticeable improvement. My computer source is windows-based but I should be able to do the same, using different drivers and software. Lastly, what do you think of these mods? http://www.underwoodhifi.com/mods_bcd.html |

http://www.underwoodhifi.com/mods_bcd.html I have known Walter Liderman for a LONG time and think he is a GREAT guy with tremendous industry insights (like when to sell Hi-Fi Buys, how to consult Bob Carver re: small subs and beyond). He is mad at me because I highlighted the professional shortcomings of one of his partners in another AV business. Just because Wally won't do business with us doesn't mean you shouldn't with him. He mods some already strong products to make them even better. I still have the $40,000 signed contract from the partner in my files. Gotta love that don't you!

Where do you live in Italy? My family is from Colliano which is near Naples. I have never been there (to Colliano) but my wife and I are looking at this spring or summer for a possible trip.
Also - I am always interested to hear how you found the forum as we spend a lot of time and money promoting it.

I live in Milan. I have a friend whose family is from Naples. I have never been to Colliano.
I found avrev googling for the Bel Canto S300iu reviews. I checked the forums and altough not big populated, the folks here seem expert and oriented to high-end gear. At least I dont have to hear the usual "cables make no difference" or "are u nuts to spend xxx on yyy?" and the like. I think you should advertise on printed magazines to attract people, although that is very costly. Anyway, I prefer quality over quantity (and you can see this from my minimalistic system) |
