Is there a good "home theater in a box" solution?

Any thoughts?

Well,

Technically, my living room is sort of a box and it has a nice home theater in it.

Does that count??

While not a full 5.1 system the Sherwood 2.1 virtual surround sound systems are usually pretty good and cheap. I had one in my guest bedroom for a spell and was quite impressed.

The Yamaha sound bar (all-in-one under plasma speaker) is also impressive. Again these are all virtual surround sound systems.

Sony has a new HTB with some very small speakers however, I don't know the model number. It premiered at this year's CEDIA show.

Well I personally don't think the HTiB is the way to go but.....
If I were on a tight budget or wanted something for a dorm room or a RV the Onkyo HT-S990THX might be worth a look, it is the first HTiB to be THX certified.
