I need to whine.

It's great to know that there are no holds barred players but most of us can't afford these machines or have other priorities. I know that this is a fact of life and that I accept this.

But how about a thread for machines that would give us 90% of the performance of the ultimate machines for a fraction of the price?

JBK -

Great idea! What sort of budget are you thinking?

My DV-50 (while still not cheap) is a relative bargain compared to some of the
other units listed. It can be had used for about $2k.

Check out some of the modded players like the Denon 3910, used Linn Genki's
are very reasonable (and good). You can pick up old external DAC's for pennies
on the dollar. Tube buffers are another cheap way to really improve the sound
of your player.

Well......

I currently am running five silver disc spinners in my main rig, one of which is a DV-50s, and I have to agree with SS, whom I got to buy this player too, the thing is great for the money.

I wouldn't give the Genki as high a recommendation though, if you want to go Linn, you want the Ikemi, it is an awesome player and can be had for ~$1,700 used.

Sorry I mis-spoke - I meant the Ikemi.

For the record... Kennyt is my hero.

Unquestionably, you should get a cape. Give size, color, and what super hero, and I`ll order it ASAP. No doubt, the Esoteric players are great. If you can have one of those, and also a Blu-Ray player for HI-DEF, then your in there.
