Also, the CD is read like 18X before the final is stored. I am no expert, but it makes sense to be.
Actually, Linn discontinued the CD12, and publicly stated this, because they were running low on supply of some parts (I believe transports) so they didn't want to leave those who already owned it with it unfixable in the future.

What you are talking about is common to most servers, and is why all Meridian players and transports use high speed computer drives to read the disc multiple times to make sure they have the correct data prior to sending it to the DAC, and yes, it does make a lot of sense.

Just discovered this thread. Thanks guys.

While I give it a read-thru, tell me: I've had my Audio Alchemy DAC 3.0 and AA DTI PRO 32 Jitter Filter (with 20-bit resolution upconversion) for about 10 years.

Is there any DAC/Jitter-reduction solution out there for under or around $1K that is the considered the best bang-for-the-buck audiophile sound? I'm definitely one of those guys who can hear differences between transports and resolution-upconversion settings on the DTI PRO, so you don't need to convince me about the subtleties of audiophile sound.

thanks!

I have the Classe CDP-300 CD/DVD player -- sounds fantastic to my ears. Run balanced through a CA-5200 to B&W 802D's.

David,

If you want ti absolutely minimize jitter, consider something like the Benchmark USB DAC, it will cut jitter to almost non existent.

Thumbs up Re: Absolute best source?

Benchmark,DAC-1 is a superb product for the money. Multi-functional, and a great headphone amp as well.
