I remember when this review was originally done. And though you should always audition after reading a review, I wanted one right away. Of course, now Meridian has the G - series, it was a great player it seems for its day.

I have the G98 now and it is truly amazing into the 861 pre/pro! I think Meridian is one of the few companies that really gets digital right!

No question. Meridian is the digital champ right now. How do you feel the G98 compares to the 598. I`m sure because of all the updates Meridian continues to do, its probably not close.

I never owned a 598. I bought the 861 as I was sick of buying 'high end' processors and then having them become obsolete in a year or so. I immediately bought the G98 once I got the 861 and haven't looked back. I might look forward to an 800 one day though!
FWIW I asked Southard about the difference and he thought it was major when he reviewed the G98, he owned a 598 as well.
