My plan is to get a older uni and dedicate it as a sacd/dvda player, have just picked up a used Pio 59avi for that.
Will use the 980 for movies & dd/dts, I have no issues with the unit in that regard.
Lets see how that works out.
You should be pleased with the Oppo 980. There really is nothing out there at its price, that provides the level of performance that it does.

Except, as I mentioned earlier as a 150 unit with VG to Excel movie vid/aud playback, no issues, but(always a but) its Hires and Redbook belly's its price point

I went through a similar issue on my HT receiver hunt years ago. Compared many units, but in 2ch only, at B&M's, home etc..., had about 6 I could live with, then weighed features/price settled on the Rotel.
Hey so far I've treated the units pretty tame here. You don't want to know how I feel about its redbook presentation! It is what it is, a $150 uni, nothing wrong that, just doesn't work for me.

The price on the Blu-ray player BDP-83 will be between $499 and $599. This is only $100 - $200 more than the DV983H which is currently selling for $399. Here is the complete contents of the official oppo email:

Default Re: OPPO DV-983H benchtest

HDTVMagazine recently benchtested the DV-983H. As expected it did very well. However, it did not pass all tests.
