Wadia Digital Delivers the iTransport Advanced iPod Docking Station

Wadia Digital, a high-end audio company dedicated to the development of digital audio technologies, today announced it is now shipping the 170iTransport, a digital player dock that provides CD-quality audio from full-resolution file formats stored on currently available iPod nano with video, iPod classic and iPod touch models starting at $379.

The iTransport (SRP: $379) measures 2.7” x 8” x 8” (H/W/D), making it an easy addition to most racks and entertainment centers. Wadia incorporates a bit-perfect S/PDIF digital audio output and high-resolution component video output, as well as analog audio and s-video outputs for easy connection with most audio/video systems. The iPod is charged while in the dock.

The suggested retail price includes the iTransport, plus a digital cable, iPod dock inserts for all compatible models, and a Wadia remote control.

I saw this @ CES this past year and it hands down won my best of show item.

This finally makes the iPod capable of being a true high end audio server when coupled with the right DAC, I suspect however many people will buy it and use it's analog outs, which use the iPod DAC's.

If I didn't already have a music server system worked out, this would be the easiest and cheapest way I can think of to make a simple server for your system.

The 170iTransport currently will not work with the Anthem D2 due to an issue between the iTransport digital output and the D2's digital input. Wadia is working on a fix for this issue. Also, the 170iTransport does not output the iPod menu to your video display. In order to navigate your music collection you have use the iPod screen. Hope you have good eyesight! After Wadia addresses these issues, the 170iTransport could very well be a great source player, but unfortunately, at this point, for me it was a bit of a disappointment.

It's very hard to found something that only cost $379. I'd bet most people with wadia cd players spend more than that for their interconnects.

Now the only problem is finding more sites for Hi-res downloads including SACD, DVD-A and XRCD. Am I just dreaming?

I just replaced the iTransport with an Apple TV, sleak user interface and a pure digital signal, thats all i need.

Downloadable Hi-Res audio is right around the corner, we just need the hardware to be able to transfer it from the computer to the DAC. There isnt much out there that will do it at the moment.

That's bizarre! I would think the D2 could lock onto most rates of digital feed, I wonder why this is???

I think you will do well with the Apple TV in place of the I70, but still think the I70 has a solid market, but it seems it still may have some bugs as you pointed out.
