Set top boxes are a total pain in the ass. If you can get rid of them - even more HDTV would sell!

The CATV industry would dearly love to get away from set top boxes. They face monumental costs associated with the purchase, provisioning, deployment, maintenance, and repair of millions of boxes. If all of that could be eliminated while maintaining signal security the industry could focus their efforts on preventive maintenance and plant upkeep.

If you fail to see that this is just another Sony ploy to CONTROL all media in the US and make the consumer pay over and over again to watch the same content, you are fooling yourself. Sony = DRM, rootkits, HDCP ultimate control and evil. Wake up everyone...
