What to do?

I am buying a Town Home, and I am wanting to convert the basement into a theatre room! I am on a budget so money is an issue. What are my options so I can have a good Theatre sound, without disturbing the neighbors? I have read about building a room within a room and puting sand between the two rooms....The basement is concrete and I have neighbors on both sides. What should I do?

I would consider that before I went to sand between the walls, even double layers on each side of studs. Line the room with Quiet Rock, put up studs and another layer of quiet rock. They also have solutions for outlets as I recall.

No how expensive is this? Like I said Im on a budget...what is an average size to make the theatre with a 72" DLP?

I think there is some pricing on the site. Seems like the THX version is about $32 per sheet, which is 4'x8' I guess. There is a lot of information with relative reduction available on that site. I'd spend some time there and look at all of the installation sheets and data sheets. Using 2 layers of drywall of different thickness (1/4" and 3/8' different thickness have different resonance characteristics.) with some other material of choice (carpeting or carpet padding, etc.) sandwiched between them will both reduce/remove sound reflections and soundproof the room.

Some of the products mentioned are rather expensive relative to performance.
