A Basic Question?

Question...

I currently have my HD receiver/cable box hooked up to my A/V receiver via an optical cord direct from the cable box.

My HD tv info says the tv will decode sound.

Will I get better sound going from the cable box to the TV then to the A/V receiver?

Tv has an optical out, but not in.

The reason I ask, is that when my DVD plays, there is a blue light that lights on the receiver, and it decodes the sound. Very nice... But when TV is on HD channel or not, this never happens...

NO! Never run audio through more sources than need be!

Go to the receiver via the digital output (in your case optical) and forget the TV unless you want to be able to listen to the TV's speakers, in which case you can run either digital or stereo inputs to the TV.

Thanks, I guess I was just expecting something astounding sound wise..

I am and always have had great sound, just thought the HD would give me a difference.
(that was noticable).

I agree with Ken - less is more in audio HOWEVER if that is the easiest way to control your system then you must consider that too.
