New Receiver not decoding via HDMI

I had a Yamaha DPX-1 $9000 video projector and had to write Yamaha Japan to get them to return a call. They did and ultimately said,....can't help you.
I would bring it back and get a Denon. I know they are very sensitive to HDMI inputs working and have excellent CS.

OK, short story is that I received a new receiver and it behaved the same way. What I managed to find out, it that with full HDMI passthrough turned on, the source components handshake with the end monitor to find out what audio signal it will support. My TV has only two channels, therefore the components only sent a two channel signal.

I turned off the HDMI passthrough feature and immediately had all six channels being decoded/passed to the receiver.

Would have been nice if Yamaha had mentioned that in the manual.

Oh well, live and learn.

BTW; It is a great receiver.

Having the same issue I believe, where in the setup utility did you turn off the HDMI passthrough, cant seem to find it in the yamaha setup,

I'm glad turning off passthrough worked for you and your yamaha, but if your receiver wouldn't have been able to decode the hdmi you wouldn't have had the audio working properly. I doubt that would work on entry level receivers that only advertise passthrough for hdmi.
