Need to buy a 5.1 Receiver
HELP! I just inherited a Bose Acoustimass® 6 speaker system but not a receiver. I went to Bose’s website to see what I need to buy and it say a 5.1. I am new to this tech world and am trying to figure out the appropriate HDMI setting (I have found 1.3 is the way to go) and the THD rating should be around 0.09? I am not sure what to buy. Some friends suggested the Yamaha RX-V363 and another said Onkyo TX-SR307. All I want is a great sound with out blowing the speakers and a great picture. I would like to buy a play station 3 for the blue ray and am not sure if I should consider this when purchasing a receiver or if it wont make a difference. If anyone can help or has any suggestion I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum! Aloha!
Either one of those should drive the Bose speakers as well as any. I'd go with the one that has the features you deem the best. |

The Yamaha RX-V363 would be a rather small receiver without many features. But Yamaha is the best. I have tried them all. An RX-V 3800 or 3900 would be a much, MUCH better unit and would make a tremendous difference in the sound. That is my opinion. Take it or leave it, that's up to you.

Re: Need to buy a 5.1 Receiver
What ever you do, don't buy a Sony. I've seen more than one start smoking due to the inability to handle the impedance load presented to it from the Bose Acoustimas. If you insist on Sony, make sure it's a Sony ES model. I agree with the previous recommendation of Yamaha.
