Help me pick my new receiver.

I didn't need a scaler now and I got a better price on the Marantz, also I had reviewed the 8001 and liked the sound, I never had the Onkyo in my rig so I went with what I knew.

How is the sound compared to the Denon?

The Denon is a bit softer and more lush, the Marantz is more on the sterile side, with more accuracy. Your choice will depend on your taste, but for music, I like them both, but in different ways and for different reasons. Try to go listen to both and see why I say this, and above all decide with your own ears as you will be the one living with the decision.

Thanks Kenny. I will try to listen to both with the speakers I will likely buy - the Mythos STS. They seem a little sterile and precise (you're a Def Tech guy I believe) which I like - perhaps the Denon will soften them up a bit. I have an old Denon 2800 now and like it, but for the speaker investment I will make I want to make sure I have the right receiver powering them.
