Me too, The Onkyo has been on my list since it was announced. They have been doing a really great job in the last few years making these type of components.

I am leaning towards the Onkyo, but I've never owned one, and Andrew, I hate to say it, I never was a huge fan of the Yamaha house sound, though it's been a few years since I've really listened to them.
I am torn on this one, having the Denon DVD-5910, if I go Denon, I can use the D-Link III as an easily digital connection, though depending on the level, it may be better with MC analog anyway.... If I get the Marantz, I don't have scaling, which again right now isn't a big issue, but if/when I go to a 52-60" 1080p LCD or plasma it might well be, but then again, will the scaling in these units be as good as I want??? If I go Onkyo, I get everything, or so it seems..... Maybe that is what I'll buy, it will do everything I need now and in the foreseeable future and I have never heard a bad thing about it, I am pretty partial to the Denon sound though and hope the Onkyo will keep me happy..... So you see how I have this problem! When it comes to the main reference rig, their are only a few options, and one usually sounds best to me so that is what I buy, for this, where let's face it, sonics aren't as high an issue as in my main HT, I get hung up in all the minutia and stuck!

Trolling A'gon I just saw a Denon 5803 for $700! Sure it doesn't do the new codecs, but DAMN, it's tempting to buy it just for the build and sonics for the bedroom.

So, what did you decide? I just replaced a 2000 model Marantz SR7000 with a new SR7002 and like this purchase just as much as I liked the purchase 8 years ago (even if the price did almost double!!). Much improved bass management, HDMI, etc... but the bottom line is that it is a very good sounding amp with great 2-channel reproduction for the price (an important feature for those of us that have to balance between 2-channel reproduction and 7-channel movie punch).
So? You?? |

What made you decide on the Marantz over the Onkyo?
