I am leaning towards the Denon as I like their sound and do have a DVD 5910CI at home so it could go back into the bedroom at some time, but for now it's staying with the AVP in the main rig.

Sounds like you should have just bought 2 Denon AVP-A1HDCI.

Well, I wouldn't duplicate a system in my home. Each system has it's ups and downs, and I have yet to find one that does it all right now (previously I was perfectly happy with my Meridian/Mark Levinson system)
I also am using this in the bedroom, so it needs to be of lesser quality (and price) than my main rig. It would be easy if I could drop another seven figures on gear, I want something that maximizes my performance for a reasonable cost.

I guess you should not have sold it, and just moved it to the bedroom.
I usually pass systems down that way. |

Well, I sold my old receiver as it didn't have the new audio codecs in it and I wanted to update it so I sold it before the new models came out (it was a Denon 4306 FWIW) so I didn't lose much $$ on it.
My main rig uses separates, and I have no intention of using separates in the bedroom due to space issues and the fact that this is a smaller system, so I couldn't 'pass it on'.

I listened to the Denon, Onkyo, Marantz and Yamaha in my home before I bought my Marantz because musically the Marantz was the winner. I ended up buying the SR7001 because it did what I wanted it to do, sounded the same as the 8001 and was cheaper. As for 1080p the Marantz may not scale, Marantz believes that is the domain of the video, but it will pass 1080p. My second choice would have been the Denon. Sonically the Yamaha wasn't even close, it sounded to me like I had a blanket over my speakers.
