Thumbs up Best non-HDMI receiver??

To those who are listening...

I have been doing some research on receivers and if I go the HDMI route, I am looking at either the Denon 2807 or Yamaha rx-v861 or possibly the new Onkyo 805...

The problem is that these receivers will run $800-1000 and may be a bit too much for what I want currently..
I know that it is important to get the best receiver and build around it..

This question is very vague, but any suggestions for a top notch receiver around the 300-500 range from any of the above companies?

Should I go for the HMDI receiver?

A little help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I would say you're going to want an HDMI capable receiver, however, all of the brands you mentioned do offer HDMI capable receivers in or around the $500 range.

Denon 2307-$799.00 retail
Yamaha RX-V661-$549.00 retail
Onkyo TX-SR674-approx $600.00 retail

I'm sure there are others but here's a start.

HI Andrew...

Thanks for the help..I have read some good review about the sr674 compared to the others..

is the sr805 the upgrade version of sr674?

Am I losing much by not paying the extra few hundred bucks for the higher end models?

Again, thanks for the help...

Yes. Go the extra mile and get HDMI. If you're thinking of upgrading to a HD-DVD or 1080 or higher (coming sooner than most people think) for your TV, than HDMI is the wave of the future. It may cost you a few bucks more, but down the road you'll be glad you did. Currently I have a Denon AVR-4802. Unfortunately it has no HDMI connections, but in my estimation is one of the best receivers out there and can be bought for way under its original MSRP. If you choose to go that route, make sure you get one with the upgraded remote (RC-8000). The remote is amazing. It can be set up with codes and is also a learning remote. Below is the link for completed listings from eBay. Good luck.

Below is information from Denon's web site.
