You are correct, many 'interim' receivers may have HDMI 1.2 in but only 1.1 out... I HOPE this is something that was only short lived and will quickly die out as the cost of the necessary chipsets continues to drop.

I didn't know that, I just assumed my Denon would send the sound to the TV speakers but since I removed my TV speakers as soon as I took the TV out of the box I never actually tried to do that.
