RX-V861 dead center channel

I'm new to the list and have several question I hope I can get help with. I researched the archives and didn't see exactly my situation.

I have several questions regarding my setup. I have a Yamaha RX-V861 receiver with KEF speakers. Because I've just moved and have been piecing my system together, I'm just now setting it up for 5.1. I've discovered that my center channel isn't working (at least how I have it set up now). When I run this through Manual Setup and the receiver is generating the white noise, nothing is coming from my center channel. I connect the center speaker to another speaker like the front left, and it works fine. I also tried another speaker and different speaker wires and still no audio from the center channel. I've set the center speaker to both small and large but no success.

Do I have something not set correctly on the unit or is their something wrong with the receiver? How do I handle getting this fixed? The unit is only about 8 months old.

The second part of my question deals with hooking up my subwoofer. I have a KEF PSW2500 and it doesn't have an LFE connection. I connected the left/right of the subwoofer to the left/right front speaker posts of the V861. Is this the correct hook up? Should I connect the subwoofer to the subwoofer pre out on the V861 instead?

Have you tried auto setup with the supplied microphone? If not, have you checked your speaker level adjustment (see page 48 of user's manual for process). The center may be turned all the way down.
Connect the subwoofer to the subwoofer pre-out using a quality subwoofer cable. Play a 5.1 source through the amp and you should see the LFE indicator illuminated on the receiver's display.

I am trying not to make any assumptions. Setting the speakers to small or large will not turn off output to the center channel speaker.

shainj, thanks for the response. Yes, I did run the auto setup with the microphone and no difference — the center channel was still dead. And the speaker level adjustment is set to 10. I'm still leaning towards the receiver being defective.

I agree. I had the same problem with a Sony once. I replaced the receiver. Problem solved.
