Anyway to upgrade existing 720p set to 1080p
 

Do any of you guys/gals know if there is a way to upgrade/modify the internals of an existing Samsung HLR6167 to to 1080p? Can you upgrade the chip to a newer version? Are the internal components completely different, is the screen different? How hard would this be if possible?

Samsung et al are not in the upgrade business, they are in the sell new products business.

Hi Andy,

Wishful thinking. The manufacturer would have to replace the entire light engine to do that, and that ain't going to happen.

There is no way to do this that I know of and I would ask you WHY you might want to do such a thing.

Sell your set for whatever you can get for it OR donate it to a charity and take the write off (if that helps) and get a brand spanking new 1080p set along with at least ONE player that will output 1080p from the BR or HD camps. With a fresh bulb, hopefully a professional calibration and a handful of the best looking discs in HD - you will be SET for the future.
