Wherever the serial number is will have the date of manufacture. Contact Sony Tech Support and request the flash drive to update the TV. Most TVs need this update.

Also you can go into to your menu and scroll as far to the left as you can and then scroll up to "Contact Sony Customer Support". There at the bottom of the screen you will see your firmware version.

If ends with an "S" you have the older version. If it ends in a "T" you have the current and up to date version.

I also agree with the review Andrew wrote... I recently bought the 60" version for $1799 from Circuit City and am blown away by the PQ of this set.
